Hello Everyone,
You may have noticed there wasn’t an email yesterday, I had a few people reach out and check on me (thank you), I got sick over the weekend and decided to take 90% of Monday off, the 10% was spent on some upcoming projects, and I took a few calls today. I’m feeling better than I was, so it’s back to usual tomorrow.
I had my monthly call with my mentor, Grace, earlier this afternoon, and she challenged me with something that I asked to extend to the rest of you, and I think this will be a theme for the week already as I think it’s applicable to many things I saw catching up on LinkedIn:
“what are the ripple effects of not being yourself?”
It’s a great question, one that if explored properly takes you beyond the surface level answers we might quickly come up with and dives into the depth were you realize how interconnected everything is.
I’ve referenced the 2021 movie The Green Knight before in my Compass Point segment The Myth of Procedure over Process, but I find myself drawn back to it in understanding my own answer, so I’ll explore it more in depth with you throughout the week, using the film as a guide.
That means there will be spoilers, but I encourage you to watch it, particularly if you like art films, films that make you think, or Studio A24 films. It’s long, and the trailers sends the wrong message about what the movie is about, but it is worth it.
As a precursor to what you might read from me tomorrow, I’d suggest watching the following clip from close to the end of the movie and then ask yourself what was asked of me.
“what are the ripple effects of not being yourself?”
I think we all might find that we are a much smaller stone in a much smaller pond than we would like to pretend. But little stones still cause ripples that hit the shore.
Regarding authenticity as a leader, I’ll quote the Green Knight.
“What else aught there be?”
Until Tomorrow,
- Chris
